General FTP Instructions

Connecting to your site
    With any Host4Yourself Account, you may connect to your site at either you domain name (ex: yourdomain.com) or your IP address (ex: 66.34.240.180). The IP address of your site was sent to you via email with your first billing invoice, along with your master username and password.

Logging in
    By default, you must use your master username and password (included in the email as noted above) to login via FTP. Through your control panel, you can create additional FTP accounts that can be given access to your entire site or restricted to one directory using your control panel.

Placing your files in the correct directory
    Once you are logged into your site, by default, you will start in your root directory. Inside of you root directory, you will find a sub-directory named either www or mainwebsite_html, depending on which control panel you are using. MonsterControls and CPanel users will have the www directory, whereas Ensim users will have the mainwebsite_html directory. This directory is where all of your web content must be placed. Sub-directories created inside the www will be accessible via the web using the address: http://www.yourdomain.com/sub-directory. Additionally, files placed in your web directory will be accesible using the address: http://www.yourdomain.com/file.htm.

NOTE:
     Some FTP Clients will allow you to specify a "remote directory" before connecting to your site. If you enter your web direcotry as this remote directory, you will be taken directly to your web directory upon log-in. Other FTP Clients may also require you to enter your full address (ie: ftp://yourdomain.com/www/ or ftp://yourdomain.com/mainwebsite_html). .

Viewing a preview of your site
    If you are using a new account and your domain name has not yet been registered or transferred to our servers, you can still view a preview of your site at the following addresses, depending on which control panel you are using with your account:
MonsterControls: http://host4yourself.propagation.net/yourdomain/
(Please note that the trailing slash ("/") at the end of the address is necessary, or your preview will not load.)
Ensim and CPanel: http://servername.h4y-platinum.com
(Replace servername with the machine name you are given after sign-up, ex: srv2 or srv3).
    These links can be very useful for ensuring that your site has been uploaded correctly before your domain name becomes active on our servers.
